Check out the Getting started with vSphere SDK for Perl guide
With the installation of vCLI, the vSphere SDK for Perl is automatically installed. Along with the esxcfg-* commands, you also have access to a wide range of scripts created by VMware for configuring and managing your VMware infrastructure including but not limited to ESX/ESXi host, vCenter, virtual machines, etc. These utilities are known as the vSphere SDK for Perl Utility Applpications.
